The garden project began in 2023 when fifth-grade students planted tomato seeds, some of which had been to space, as part of their science studies. This hands-on experiment sparked excitement and curiosity among the students.
Thanks to an earlier donation, the school acquired a composter, which became a valuable tool for teaching students about organic matter and recycling. Beyond science lessons, the garden quickly became a versatile space. Students enjoyed reading there with their buddies and found it a peaceful spot to relax. School staff also recognized its value as a calming area for students who needed a break.
The connection with West Coast Arborists, Inc. was made through Anthony Vazquez, Public Work Maintenance Manager for the City of Baldwin Park. The sign is presented in honor of the class of 2023 who pioneered the garden space.
“We are extremely grateful for this donation. We are looking forward to continuing a partnership with the City of Baldwin Park and West Coast Arborist,” Assistant Principal of Tracy Elementary Sam-Ana Fenwick said.
